Co-signing a Bail Bond

A co-signer is the person who signs with us so that someone they love can get out of jail. Here is what that means, in plain words, before you decide.

Co-signing a Bail Bond in Hays County

When you co-sign a bail bond, you sign an agreement with the bail bond company and promise that the person being released will go to every court date. If they do, the case runs its course and your part ends with it. If they do not, you can be held to the promises in that agreement.

What you sign

Your agreement with Bobcat Bail Bonds sets out exactly what you are responsible for. Ask us for a copy and read it before you sign. Do not sign anything you have not read.

Before you co-sign, ask yourself three questions:

  • Do I trust this person to go to every court date?
  • Can I keep in touch with them until the case is over?
  • Do I understand what I am agreeing to if they don't show up?

What happens if a court date is missed

If the person on bond does not appear when the court calls their name, the court declares the bail forfeited and a judgment is entered against the defendant and the sureties for the bond amount. A warrant is then issued for their arrest. If you learn a court date may be missed, call us at once: (737) 414-0422.

Getting collateral back

Collateral is money or property held to secure the bond. Texas law says it must be returned within 30 days after its owner asks for it in writing and shows, in writing, that the payment agreement or the criminal case it secured has ended.

Every time you pay us money or give us property, you get a receipt saying who paid, how much, and for which case.

What to bring

Bring a photo ID. We tell you on the phone what else we need for your case, so nothing is wasted.

You can also start the bond online before you call.

This page is general information, not legal advice. Bobcat Bail Bonds is a bail bond company, not a law firm. Your own agreement sets out what applies to you.
