Can you get bail bonds in Niederwald, TX through Hays County?
Yes, when the arrest is a Hays County case. Bail bonds in Niederwald, TX depend on the county, because the city lies in both Hays and Caldwell counties. A Hays County arrest usually leads to the Hays County Jail in San Marcos, where Bobcat is licensed. A Caldwell County arrest goes to the jail in Lockhart.
Getting the county right first saves time. Calling the wrong jail, or a bond company that cannot write in that county, only adds delay.
A town on the county line
The City of Niederwald describes itself as “a city in Caldwell and Hays counties,” located in eastern Hays County and northern Caldwell County, with State Highway 21 as its main road. The Texas State Historical Association’s Handbook of Texas tells the same story from the other end: the town started in eastern Hays County and later spread into Caldwell County.
For a family, that means two different sets of offices could be involved:
| Hays County | Caldwell County | |
|---|---|---|
| Sheriff | Hays County Sheriff’s Office | Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office |
| Jail | 1307 Uhland Road, San Marcos | Lockhart |
| Jail phone | 512-393-7800 | 512-398-6777, option 1 |
| Can Bobcat write the bond? | Yes, Bobcat is licensed here | Call and we will tell you straight |
Who makes arrests in Niederwald
Niederwald’s website does not list a police department. Under Emergency Services, its Sheriff’s Office page lists both the Hays County Sheriff’s Office and the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office says its deputies answer calls across the whole county, and it does not name Niederwald among the cities with their own police.
In plain terms: if Hays County deputies made the arrest, the person is usually taken to the Hays County Jail. If Caldwell County deputies made it, the person was most likely taken to the Caldwell County Jail in Lockhart. When in doubt, the arresting agency named on the paperwork is the surest guide.
The Niederwald municipal court
The city’s website posts a 2001 ordinance establishing a municipal court for Niederwald. We could not confirm from the city’s site whether that court hears cases today. Under Texas law, a municipal court handles city ordinance cases and shares fine-only state cases with the justice court of the precinct, for offenses inside the city limits. Whichever court has a Class C ticket, the ticket names it.
Finding someone after a Niederwald arrest
Check Hays County first. Our Hays County Jail inmate search guide shows how to use the county’s public records portal. If the person is not on the Hays roster after a few hours, they may have been booked in Caldwell County.
For Caldwell County, the Sheriff’s Office tells callers to phone the jail at 512-398-6777 and select option 1, or to check custody status through the state’s IVSS service. Have the full legal name and date of birth ready either way.
If the case is in Hays County
Once the person is booked in San Marcos, Texas law says they must see a magistrate no later than 48 hours after arrest. The magistrate sets bail and any conditions. Hays County holds those hearings every day of the year.
After bail is set, posting bail through a licensed company is one way to secure the release from jail. Hays County is a Bail Bond Board county, and only companies with a Hays County license can write bonds there. Bobcat holds that license. We answer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and se habla español. Our owner has years of experience as a bail bond agent and runner.
What happens next is covered in our guide on how bail bonds work in Hays County. Fees are covered in what a bail bond costs in Hays County: in short, bail bond fees are set case by case, and qualified applicants may be eligible for payment plans.
If the case is in Caldwell County
Texas law does not let a company advertise as a bail bond surety in a county where it is not licensed. Bobcat is licensed by the Hays County Bail Bond Board. So if your family member is in the Caldwell County Jail, call us anyway and we will tell you straight whether we can help. If we cannot, we will say so, and you will not have lost time waiting on us.
Before you call Bobcat
Gather what you can. These details help most:
- which agency made the arrest, if you know
- the person’s full legal name and date of birth
- the jail they are in, or the result of your search
- the charge and the bail amount, if they have been set
You can also start a bail bond online and we will call you back. For a family violence arrest, which often comes with extra bond conditions, see our page on family violence bail bonds in San Marcos. Questions about the charge itself are legal questions a bail bond company cannot answer.
