Where do bail bonds in Uhland, TX get posted?

Bail bonds in Uhland, TX get posted at whichever county jail booked the person. Uhland sits on the Hays-Caldwell county line. An arrest on the Hays County side usually goes to the Hays County Jail in San Marcos, and Bobcat is licensed there. An arrest by Caldwell County agencies goes to the Caldwell County Jail in Lockhart.

So before anything else, find out which jail your family member is in. The rest of this page shows how.

Uhland straddles two counties

The Texas State Historical Association’s Handbook of Texas places Uhland on Farm Road 21, about 11 miles northeast of San Marcos, “on the Hays-Caldwell county line.” Its Texas Almanac data lists the city in both Hays and Caldwell counties.

So three local facts matter for an Uhland arrest: the city has its own police force, it has a municipal court set up by city ordinance, and there are two possible county jails.

Uhland has its own police department

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office names Uhland among the places that operate their own police departments, along with Buda, Kyle, San Marcos and Texas State University. Those departments handle calls inside their own limits. Sheriff’s deputies have countywide jurisdiction and assist when needed. The City of Uhland’s website also has a page for the Uhland Police Department.

Outside the city limits, or on the Caldwell County side of the area, other agencies may be the ones who respond. If you are not sure who made the arrest, the citation, the bond paperwork or a call to the jail will tell you.

Which jail?

Here is how it usually breaks down:

  • A Hays County case generally ends at the Hays County Jail, 1307 Uhland Road, San Marcos. The jail’s main line is 512-393-7800.
  • An arrest by Caldwell County agencies goes to the Caldwell County Jail in Lockhart. Its custody line is 512-398-6777, option 1.

The street name is a coincidence worth knowing: the Hays County Jail is on Uhland Road in San Marcos, not in Uhland itself.

The Uhland Municipal Court

The city’s website posts a 2008 ordinance establishing the Uhland Municipal Court. Under the ordinance and Texas law, that court has exclusive jurisdiction over city ordinance cases within city limits. It also shares fine-only state cases, the Class C misdemeanors, with the local justice court, as long as the offense happened inside the city.

What this means for you: a ticket written by Uhland police inside the city may be filed in the Uhland Municipal Court. The citation names the court and the appearance date. Class A and B misdemeanors and felonies are not heard there; they go to the county and district courts.

Searching for someone arrested in Uhland

Look in Hays County first. Our Hays County Jail inmate search guide explains how to search the county’s public records portal and what to try when no record comes up.

If the person is not on the Hays roster, call the Caldwell County Jail. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office also points families to the state’s IVSS custody service. In both counties, it helps to have the person’s full legal name and date of birth.

Posting bail on the Hays County side

Once an Uhland arrest is booked in San Marcos, the next step is the magistrate. Under Texas law that hearing has to happen within 48 hours of the arrest, and Hays County runs its magistrate court daily, holidays included. That hearing is where the bail amount and any conditions are decided.

From there, bail can be posted in cash, by a surety bond, or through a personal bond if the magistrate allows it. Bobcat writes surety bonds and is licensed by the Hays County Bail Bond Board, which the county says is required to write bonds for people charged in Hays County. Our guide to how bail bonds work in Hays County explains the options, and our page on misdemeanor bail bonds in San Marcos covers lower-level charges.

If the jail is in Caldwell County

A bail bond company may only advertise as a surety in a county where it is licensed. Bobcat’s license is from the Hays County Bail Bond Board. If your family member is in the Lockhart jail, call us and we will tell you straight whether we can help. We would rather tell you no right away than leave you waiting.

What Bobcat needs from you

We are open 24 hours, 7 days a week, and se habla español. Our owner has years of experience as a bail bond agent and runner. To get started, it helps to know:

  • the jail and county, if you have found them
  • the person’s full legal name and date of birth
  • the charge and bail amount, if set
  • who will sign for the bond

Bail bond fees are set case by case, and qualified applicants may be eligible for payment plans. Credit cards, debit cards, Zelle and Venmo all work for payment. You can call or start online, and you can read what a co-signer agrees to before you sign. Questions about the case itself are legal questions a bail bond company cannot answer.
