How do bail bonds in Kyle, TX work?
Bail bonds in Kyle, TX are handled at the Hays County Jail at 1307 Uhland Road in San Marcos. Kyle police take the people they arrest to the county facility for booking. A Hays County magistrate then sets bail, and once it is set, a licensed bail bond company like Bobcat Bail Bonds can post the bond there.
So the bond is not something to sort out at the Kyle police station. Kyle’s police department makes the arrest. The county jail holds the person, the county magistrate sets the bail, and the bond is posted at the county jail.
Who makes arrests in Kyle
Inside the city limits, it is usually the Kyle Police Department. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office lists Kyle as one of the four cities in the county with its own police department, along with Buda, San Marcos and Uhland.
The department is at 1700 Kohlers Crossing. Its non-emergency number is 512-268-3232. Bail is set by a county magistrate, not by the police, and bonds are posted at the county jail.
Outside the city limits
Not every arrest near Kyle happens inside the city limits. The Sheriff’s Office says the unincorporated areas of the county are its responsibility. If a deputy made the arrest, the person goes to the same county jail and the bond process is the same.
Where the person is booked
A study of the Kyle Police Department that the city published in July 2024 says Kyle officers book prisoners at the Hays County facility in San Marcos, and that officers stay on the call until they are cleared from the detention center there. The city’s police pages do not name a city jail.
Which court handles the case
The court depends on how serious the charge is. Kyle has three local courts: one run by the city and two run by the county.
Kyle Municipal Court
The Kyle Municipal Court is at 100 W. Center St. Its number is 512-262-3994. The city says it handles Class C misdemeanor violations inside the city limits, under state law and city ordinances. It runs plea, show cause, pre-trial and trial dockets, and it handles warrants. The court notes that if someone is released on bond, the first appearance date is set on the bond.
Justice of the Peace courts in Kyle
Hays County has two Justice of the Peace courts in Kyle: Precinct 2-1 and Precinct 2-2, both at 5458 FM 2770. Justice courts hear misdemeanors punishable by a fine only. Under Texas law, a city’s municipal court shares that kind of case with the justice court of the precinct the city sits in.
Bigger charges
Class A and Class B misdemeanors go to the Hays County Courts at Law in San Marcos. Felonies go to a District Court. Which court a case is in, and what that means for the person, is a legal question a bail bond company cannot answer. The bond paperwork shows where to appear.
How to find someone arrested in Kyle
Start with the county, not the city. The Hays County Jail roster lists who is in custody there. Our Hays County Jail inmate search guide walks you through the county’s records portal step by step.
When you search or call, have these ready:
- The person’s full legal name, spelled as on their ID
- Their date of birth
- Roughly when and where in Kyle they were arrested
If the search comes back empty, the person may not be booked yet. You can also call the jail’s Corrections Bureau at 512-393-7800, or the county’s 24-hour custody line at 866-268-8959. The jail’s bond line is 512-393-7807 or 512-393-7690.
How bail gets posted for a Kyle arrest
Texas law says the person must be taken before a magistrate no later than 48 hours after the arrest. Hays County’s Magistrate Court holds hearings every day of the year. The magistrate sets bail and any conditions.
After that there are three routes: a cash bond for the full amount, a personal bond if the magistrate grants one, or a surety bond through a licensed bail bond company. Our guide to how bail bonds work in Hays County explains the differences. The jail processes bonds in the order received and does not give release times.
